i am shocked. only 1 dead tune in my top 25 and it is, of all things, rosa lee mcfall from reckoning. wow. i think it is because i have a separate ipod full of only GD that i rarely plug into itunes and update, while my main ipod is updated often and gets a lot of use. plus i tend to skip to the next song if the tuning is dragging on at the end of a gd track.

either way, just because i know it is insane, here is my itunes top 25...

1. Hir Aanii Dhowyen ma Halabsado - Iftin
2. Don't Fight It (Version) - Sound Dimension
3. Sundog Sinners - Obsidian Pond
4. Tezeta - Mulatu Astatke
5. Loro Bronto - Amiek Dasuki
6. Russian Lullaby - Oscar Aleman
7. Bless the People Everywhere - Burden Lifters
8. Daily Vacation - Ducktails
9. 가나다라마바 - Kim Jung Mi
10. Lost Highway - Bob Dylan
11. Milenu - Tèwèldè Rèdda
12. Gloria Dolores - Hans Joachim Roedelius
13. No Place I'd Rather Be - Emil Richards
14. Your Lady - John Coltrane
15. Tomorrow Never Knows - Junior Parker
16. Veterano - Harmonia
17. Rosa Lee Mcfall - Grateful Dead
18. Filles De Kilimanjaro - Miles Davis
19. Motion Pictures (For Carrie) - Neil Young
20. Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground - Blind Willie Johnson
21. Kentucky - Blue Sky Boys
22. Rpeg - Autechre
23. Malaguena - Carlos Montoya
24. Waterloo Sunset - Kinks
25. Katie Cruel - Karen Dalton

Wow, quite an eclectic mix.

Of course, this is a pretty inaccurate assessment of what our actual favorites are. Alice D. Millionaire is my #1 song according to iTunes. While I love that song, it's not nearly one of my favorites. But if I have 2 minutes to listen to music, I put it on!

But my #2 is the Candyman from 2/24/74 which is actually one of my favorite songs, possibly my favorite version of that song, and an all-time favorite show.

I do also have 2 Dark Stars in my top 25:
- DP 36 (09/21/72)
- 11/02/69

yeah, i laughed when i saw my top 25. i can't even pronounce some of the stuff on there!

and, yeah, most played (or, more accurately, most played to completion) is not necessarily the same as favorite. a lot of my top 25 are songs that i have had on my itunes since i got it so, naturally, they have gotten more play. and a shorter tune may get played all the way through more often than a longer one because there is less time for the listener to actually skip it (one of my top 25 was actually a 6 second drum sample that accidentally made it into my "favorites" playlist and comes and goes without even being noticed). and in my case, most of my music is played via my main ipod (not my gd-only one, as i often use the archive for gd if i am at home), which gets used for personal listening as well as social situations where i have to cater to people who aren't up for a 45 minute playin'. in fact, my number 2 tune was a huge shocker because i couldn't really even remember it by name, but when i listened i realized that it was on several different playlists that all got a lot of action a few years ago. still a good jam, but certainly not one of my favorite songs.

love that 2/24/74 candyman, btw. great solo.

kim jung mi is awesome! she was a korean singer who put out some psych-pop albums in the early 70's. i just tried to find my favorite of her songs on youtube but there isn't much on there. found a good one, though. dig it...

That is pretty neat. I think I'll send the links to some friends with a Korean kid ... do you know it was just Hug A Korean Day?

(That notion is surreal. Imagine Hug An American Day. Would there be more fistfights or harrassment suits? But Korea ... well, if you fly on Korean Air, the video safety presentation is made with teddy bears. A daddy teddy bear puts an air mask on the baby teddy bear.)
